My title was provocative, and you're completely right; whether you should seek "happiness" is entirely dependent upon how you define it. In this article I was referring to the paper which labels it as being ego-centric, but that nuance was certainly lost in the title. I love that quote, and am with you 100% that happiness and meaning go hand in hand.

This article was meant to be a small corrective to the deluge of self-help books which trump a shallow idea of happiness which excludes meaning. Thanks for your comment and I'll be sure to look into the Buddhist conception of a state of happiness!
